Breast Lift Sunshine Coast

Changes in the shape and position of your breasts can naturally occur throughout your life. As the natural ageing process takes place, breasts can appear to drop or sag from their original position. Breast size, position, shape, and symmetry can also be influenced by pregnancy and breastfeeding, weight fluctuations and genetic factors.

Plastic surgeon Dr Grant Fraser-Kirk can perform breast lift surgery, also referred to as mastopexy, to improve the breast shape and lift the breasts to a desired and more comfortable position.

What can be achieved with a breast lift?

To improve the appearance of the breasts, a breast lift procedure can:

  • Remove excess or sagging skin
  • Correct nipple placement
  • Correct asymmetrical breasts
  • Adjust areola size

How is a breast lift performed?

A breast lift procedure is designed to lift the breasts to an improved position by removing excess skin that may have contributed to a sagging effect, as well as tighten the surrounding tissue. The procedure will be performed with a personalised approach, using the most suitable incision type for each patient.

Breast lift incision types:

The incision type chosen will depend on the amount of lifting and excess skin removal that is needed. Incision types that involve more cutting will allow the surgeon more access to the areas of excess skin and will allow for more shaping. These types are generally ideal for those who would like a more dramatic change. Those who only require a subtle lift can achieve their desired results with a less extensive incision type.

  • Wise-Pattern/Anchor
To allow a moderate to high amount of lifting, a circular incision is made around the areola, followed by a vertical incision to the bottom of the breast and a horizontal incision along the crease of the breast.
  • Vertical/Lollipop
For a moderate lift, a circular incision can be made around the areola before a vertical incision is made towards the breast crease.
  • Peri-Areolar/Benelli
When patients only require a subtle lift, a circular incision is made around the areola.
  • Crescent
For an even more subtle lift, a semi-circle incision can be made above the areola.

As well as removing excess skin and creating a lift, the placement of your nipples will also be adjusted to suit the new breast shape. Often, breasts that have begun to sag will cause the nipples to move from their original position, potentially facing downwards. A breast lift will involve adjusting nipple placement for optimal results.

Enlarged areolae are also common amongst women who choose to undergo a breast lift procedure. During the procedure, the size of the areolae can be adjusted to create a more balanced appearance.

What can I expect during recovery?

After a breast lift procedure, you may feel some pain and discomfort, as well as notice some swelling and bruising on and around the breasts. These are normal post-surgical experiences and will subside as the body heals.

Since the breast lift procedure is personalised and every patient will have different needs, you will receive specific recovery instructions that are tailored to you, to help you navigate your recovery and support sufficient healing.

General recovery instructions:

  • Take some time off from work or usual daily activities, usually about two weeks
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for two weeks
  • Avoid exercise that puts stress on the chest area for four weeks
  • Wear your post-surgical bra for four weeks
  • Avoid itching or rubbing the incision sites
  • Attend post-surgical appointments to monitor healing

Throughout your recovery, it will be important to prioritise your general health and wellbeing. To support your healing process, you should follow a healthy diet, stay hydrated and get plenty of rest.

How much will a breast lift cost?

Breast lift procedures are highly personalised, which will influence the total costs of the surgery. Each patient will have a different estimated total, as measured by the details of their procedure.

Your breast lift procedure costs can be outlined during your consultation with Dr Fraser-Kirk, as your individual needs and procedure goals will need to be assessed.

Generally, procedure costs are influenced by anaesthesia fees, hospital fees and the complexity and length of the procedure.
