Breast Fat Grafting Sunshine Coast

Fat grafting, or autologous fat transfer, is an alternative breast augmentation procedure for patients who may not be suited to breast implants, or who desire a more natural-looking breast enhancement. The procedure involves removing fat via liposuction from other areas of the body such as the thighs, stomach, and hips. With over 300 procedures performed at one of the world’s leading breast units, plastic surgeon Dr Grant Fraser-Kirk has extensive experience as a high-volume fat grafting surgeon.

What can be achieved with breast fat grafting?

Breast fat grafting augmentation can achieve the following:

  • Create an enhancement up to one or two cup sizes with natural-looking results.
  • Produce minimal scarring in comparison to a traditional breast implant procedure.
  • Remove unwanted fat from other areas on the body, improving the body’s contours.
  • Less downtime in recovery.
  • Less complications compared to traditional implants, which can be at risk of ruptures or capsular contracture.

How is breast fat grafting performed?

The procedure is performed under local or general anaesthetic and is usually a day procedure. Once the anaesthesia is in effect, fat is removed via liposuction from the chosen areas of the body as discussed with Dr Fraser-Kirk during consultation. This process involves injecting a fluid to loosen the body fat and making a small incision to insert a cannula that will begin vacuuming the fat. Once removed, the fat will go through a state-of-the-art purification process to separate any fluids from the fat cells. This purified fat is then injected into the breasts and repeated until the desired breast size and shape has been sculpted. The procedure should take around one hour to complete.

What can I expect during recovery?

Patients may encounter swelling, bruising, and some pain around the breasts, which is a normal post-surgical experience. Both breasts will be wrapped, and the liposuction sites will be covered with dressings or bandages. A compression garment will need to be worn for up to six weeks to reduce swelling and bruising, and pain medication can be prescribed to help ease discomfort.

General Recovery Instructions:

  • Take sufficient time off work – generally one to two weeks
  • Avoid strenuous physical activities for at least four weeks
  • Avoid movement that may put physical strain on your chest area
  • Wear prescribed compression garments
  • Take prescribed medication and creams
  • Attend all post-surgical appointments to monitor healing

It is vitally important to follow Dr Fraser-Kirk’s recovery instructions to ensure scarring is minimised where possible and to achieve an optimal post-surgery outcome. General health and wellbeing should be your top priority during this time.

How much will Breast Fat Grafting cost?

Due to the highly personal nature of a breast fat grafting procedure, costs can vary for each patient based upon their needs. At a consultation with Dr Fraser-Kirk, the patient’s health, wellbeing, and ultimate goals for the surgery will be discussed to establish a personalised surgical plan. Once this plan is established, Dr Fraser-Kirk will provide a detailed cost estimate. This cost will vary depending upon the length and complexity of the procedure, along with other factors such as, surgeon costs, hospital fees, anaesthetist fees, and post-operative care costs.
